“LOVE IS KIND” - TONIGHT AT OMSA!!!

Come in from the cold and join us in OMSA’s community lounge tonight at 7pm (very soon!!!) as we discuss the intricacies of Intimate Partner Violence, and empower each other to remove this injustice from our communities. We will have a speaker guide the discourse, and of course, tasty treats to munch on while you’re with us!

Are you sure that Intimate Partner Violence doesn’t affect you or someone you care about? We all hope not, but this is an issue that crosses the lines gender, racial, economic and sexual orientation lines. Please keep these facts in mind:

  • One in five women killed or severely injured by an intimate partner had no warning: the fatal or life-threatening incident was the first physical violence they had experienced from their partner. (from National Institute of Justice)
  • A woman’s attempt to leave an abuser was the precipitating factor in 45 percent of the murders of women by their intimate partners (from National Institute of Justice)
  • The rates of intimate parter violence are nearly the same in Heterosexual and in LGBT communities - currently, the victim rate for gay men is 1 out of 5. (From National Center on Domestic and Sexual Violence)

This isn’t meant to scare anyone, just to keep you all informed. I’ll also post links to a few resources later this evening.

I hope to see many of you tonight at the event!
