Why SGRho?

I chose Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. because I have met some of the greatest women in the world who were about business, having fun, and always being Classy at the same time. I also chose it because of my Family’s connection to the Sigma. My father is a man from Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., so we have that Indiana Love there, and My uncle is a man from Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., so we now share that Sigma Love. Another thing that really made me choose to become Greek with my SGRho Sorors is because they are known for the Brains and Education which is something that I am all about!

What SGRho has taught me/What I’ve learned since becoming a member of SGRho?

It has taught me that life cannot be about just fun and games. If you want something you have to work for it. But it also taught me that balance is key to a happy and successful life. I’m still working on the balance part but I am getting there. The most important thing is that you are always striving to better yourself through it all.

 Favorite Book?

I like a lot of books… Here are a few of my favorites: The Bible, The Color Purple by Alice Walker, Jubilee by Margaret Walker, The Ear, The Eye and The Arm by Nancy Farmer

 Favorite Color?

It is a tie between Purple and Yellow.

Blue or Gold?

Gold

The first thing that people notice about me is…

My smile when they see it.

Definition of sisterhood:

My definition of sisterhood is “the connection between two women that is stronger than friendship and can be created by blood but can last longer than friendship.”

Advice to (Undergrads/Graduate Students/Recent Grads/other Sorors/Potentials/whoever):

If you are looking to build something inside of yourself that you felt like you didn’t have before joining a Greek organization don’t do it. Not for that reason alone at least. Take some time and do some self reflection about you. What are your goals, wants, desires, time constraints, purpose in life? Joining a Greek Organization does build you up so that you can become a better person but you need to know and identify who you are before joining. That is something that I learned in becoming a Sigma woman. But please keep in mind I am not trying to discourage you from joining. In fact I think this self reflection is what made me join. For me I knew if I waited to be my perfect self before I joined I would have never would have because I am human and not Perfect in any way. I think a sisterhood should bring the best out of you even when you are at your worst. And I think it is slowly doing that for me. There is no magic that will make you a better person in a night, a day, a month, or even a year. But if you be prayerful and work at it daily you can better yourself slowly and eventually become the person that you always envisioned yourself to be. Also Life is too short have fun!
